Amanda Brugel
(February 27 2010 - Toronto ON) Pointe Claire is a secluded community in this part of the island of Montreal called"the West Island. People unfamiliar with the term frequently think that there is a separate island to the west of Montreal however, it's a part of the city that's west. West Island is home to everything from Lachine west to the city of Lachine west. Amanda Brugel's birthplace is frequently referenced, however her brief visit to the West Island wasn't. Brugel was raised in Courtice near Oshawa Ontario. Early ambitions were to become a dancer. But, a growing rate increased her height and she outgrew her dance partners she was able to have. A Toronto Star article revealed she's 6ft 1in tall in heels. After I became too big for my male friends, I quit. Former dancers often turn into acting. In the case of Brugel, it was an urging by her teacher in drama. She was recommended by a teacher getting a part in the school's annual production. She tried out and was eventually cast as the lead of Anne of Green Gables. It led to the award of a Fine Arts Talent Scholarship at York University where she attended the Theatre Program and graduated with the Bachelor in Fine Arts degree in 2000. Since then, Brugel's been performing in over 60 plays, large and small. The most notable was the time she was cast as Rita in The Handmaid's Tale. Brugel is the sole Canadian of the Season 1 The Handmaid's Tale cast as well as appearing only on occasion, was the only Canadian.
